The Lead Instructor-Phil
I learned to Sail in England and have been sailing on and off most of my life. When I came to Kingston over 20 years ago I began sailing regularly, originally in a DS 17' boat then an O'Day 25 and over the past 8 years in a CS 30 "Wavelength". I took the CYA Basic Intermediate and Advanced cruising courses and through them gained more experience and confidence in my sailing abilities.
I have always enjoyed teaching so I decided to pass on my love of sailing to others by becoming an Instructor. I am a registered CYA (SPARKSTART, Basic,Intermediate and Advanced Cruising and Maritime Radio Certificate) instructor listed in
Canadian Yachting Association Instructors and Ontario Sailing Association Instructors. I hold the CYA Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Cruising standards and the
Coastal Navigation qualification. I am also a member of the Canadian Power & Sail Squadron and have successfully completed the Weather and Advanced Piloting courses. I am certified to level C CPR and Standard First Aid. I became a CYA instructor in 2001 and every three years I re-certify. I certified as an Advanced Cruising Instructor in September of 2006 and as a Coastal Navigation Instructor in April 2010.
In 2007 I qualified to train CYA Instructors as as a SPARKSTART Course Conductor and also as a Basic Cruising Instructor Evaluator in 2010 I completed certification as a Senior Cruising Instructor Evaluator. I recently completed a course to become an NCCP Coach.
I teach around 11 live aboard courses annually on the waters of Lake Ontario and in the Virgin Islands in winter.
I would be pleased to provide contact information of former students if required.

Instructor-Jim
I learned to sail in Norfolk Virginia at twelve years of age. I have crewed and raced on many types of sailboats over 50 years. My first sailboat that I owned was a GP 14 a wooden boat that I restored and sailed for many years. Our first family boat that I owned was a DS 20 which the family and I sailed on Georgian Bay and the St Lawrence River for several years. With a family of five and the DS 20 becoming too small as the children grew, my wife and I purchased CS 27 in 1990 and still sail her today out of the Brockville Yacht Club. I currently co-own and race a Shark in Ottawa. In support of the boating community I am an active member of the Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue unit out of Brockville. I have crewed on a tall ship and spent a good part of the summer on the Atlantic Ocean with The Tall Ship Festival of 2009. I am a registered CYA (SPARKSTART, Basic, Intermediate, Maritime Radio Certificate) Canadian Yachting Association Instructors and Ontario Sailing Association Instructors.. I hold the CYA Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Cruising standards and the Coastal Navigation qualification. I am certified to level C CPR and Standard First Aid. I first became a CYA instructor in 2006 and every three years I re-certify. I teach on the St Lawrence River and Lake Ontario.
